Dr. Bailey received the Master of Optometry degree from Indiana University in 1966. Following three years of service as an optometry officer in the United States Army, including one year in Vietnam, Dr. Bailey returned to Indiana University to pursue graduate training in physiological optics. He received his PhD degree in 1973. Following postdoctoral studies at the Institute for Perception in Soesterberg, The Netherlands, Dr. Bailey returned to the United States in 1974 where he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry. Dr. Bailey currently holds the rank of Professor. He teaches courses in the Department of Basic and Vision Sciences dealing with monocular sensory processes of vision, visual psychophysics and geometrical and physical optics. Dr. Bailey has authored three book chapters, all in the area of clinical aspects of color vision, and co-edited a textbook on the psychophysical measurement of vision function. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and has served on its Visual Science and Admittance Committees. Dr. Bailey has served on both examination committees and examination councils of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. His research interests include color vision and color vision tests, optometric education outcomes, and environmental vision.
