Additionally, each college also organizes profession-specific events to foster honor and spirit for the professions of optometry, PA and soon, pharmacy.
White Coat Ceremony
Members of the incoming class are welcomed into SCCO's doctoral program and the optometric profession with a traditional White Coat Ceremony where each First-Year student receives his or her white coat before a gathering of family, friends, and the Ketchum community. The white coat symbolizes professionalism, responsibility, history and pride. A highlight of the event is the recitation of the Optometric Oath for Students. This event occurs annually in the fall.
Optometry Super Bowl
Each year, optometry students compete with their peers for the chance to represent their optometry school at the Knowledge Bowl. An annual event held at the American Optometric Association's national meeting, the Knowledge Bowl is an optometric trivia contest, Jeopardy-style, to determine which optometry school will take home the national trophy.
White Coat Ceremony
Students of the School of Physician Assistant Studies receive the traditional white coat at the completion of their didactic year (the first year). The SPAS White Coat Ceremony honors each student before a gathering of family, friends, and the Ketchum community. The white coat symbolizes professionalism, responsibility, history and pride.
CAPA Challenge Bowl
At the annual fall meeting of the California Academy of PA’s (CAPA), students from PA programs across the state of California meet and challenge each other to a game of medical knowledge. MBKU’s team consists of students who have completed their first “didactic” year of the PA program.
Every year, October 6-12 represents a week to promote the PA profession. The first-year class of PA students organizes activities for the class, school and university to recognize the profession and show school spirit.
White coat and commencement ceremonies will be available to stream live online for families and friends who are not able to attend in person. Announcements about the live streaming site are made in the month leading up to the ceremony.
Students and families are welcome to view photo galleries of campus events and ceremonies on the official MBKU Facebook page and tag themselves in photos in which they appear.
