Dr. Barnhardt received her degree in Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry, where she also completed a residency in Pediatric Optometry and Vision Therapy. Dr. Barnhardt joined the Vision Therapy and Pediatric Vision Care faculty in 1996. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and a Diplomate in the Pediatric, Binocular Vision, and Perception Section of the American Academy of Optometry. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association. Dr. Barnhardt completed a Masters Program in Education with an emphasis in Special Education at California State University, Fullerton. Currently, she is an associate professor and teaches the Management of Nonstrabismic Binocular Vision Conditions and co-teaches the Pediatric Optometry courses. In addition, she does clinical teaching of optometric interns in the Vision Therapy and Pediatric Services. She is the Chief of the Studt Center for Vision Therapy. Her research interests include binocular vision, pediatric optometry, and learning-related vision problems. Current studies include the Amblyopia Treatment Studies and the Correction of Myopia Evaluation Trail. Dr. Barnhardt's service interests include Special Olympics, where she serves as the Clinical Director for the Opening Eyes vision screening program.
