Dr. Kenneth E. Brookman is the Special Assistant to the Provost and holds the rank of Professor. In addition to his administrative duties as Special Assistant to the Provost, he teaches courses in clinical methods and professional ethics. Dr. Brookman earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees at SCCO in 1971 and 1973 respectively. Following a year of private practice, he entered the graduate program in physiological optics at Indiana University earning a Master of Science degree in 1975 and Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1980. Dr. Brookman also earned a Master of Public Health degree from UCLA in 1988. He has been a full-time faculty member at SCCO from 1975-77 and from 1980 to the present.

Dr. Brookman has published 18 papers, abstracts, case reports, and book reviews. He also edited and co-authored the book “Refractive Management of Ametropia” published in 1996. Dr. Brookman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Diplomate in the Low Vision Section.

Dr. Brookman is a retired optometry officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired in 2002 at the rank of Colonel following 26 years of military service including active duty during Operation: Desert Storm in 1990-91.
