Dr. Timothy I. Messer provides low vision care to patients at the Southwestern Blind Rehabilitation Center where he directs the low vision training of optometry residents and fourth year optometry students as an Associate Professor of the Southern California College of Optometry. Dr. Messer has practiced at the VA throughout his entire optometry career, having previously been at the facilities in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and Kansas City, where he completed his residency training in hospital-based rehabilitative optometry. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry in 1984. Dr. Messer is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He has served on numerous national committees within the VA and within optometric education, particularly with regard to residency training that includes his service for six years as a member of the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) and as the founding President of the Board of Directors of the Optometric Residency Matching Service, Inc. (ORMS).
