PHM 540 Professional Practice and Healthcare Systems
This course is designed to familiarize students with health care systems with emphasis on contemporary health care issues and pharmacy practice in the U.S. and services within various medication use systems. The scope of practice and role of the pharmacist in various health settings, historical development of pharmaceutical practice and care, workforce issues and the economic aspects of pharmacy practice will be discussed. Other topics to be discussed include credentialing, federal and private health insurance, provider privileges, fee-for-service, value-based performance, medication-patient safety and medication therapy management.
Prerequisites: Admission to the professional pharmacy program.
