Being a Student Ambassador.jpg)
The student ambassadors had such a positive impact on my decision to choose MBKU. I knew I wanted to become a student ambassador to give back to my community and continue the tradition of inspiring and guiding future optometrists. My first event as a student ambassador was the SEE event. It was such a rewarding experience seeing so many prospective students attend our event, and I was grateful to have the opportunity to share my experiences with them!
Attending COA Legislative Day
Right after spring break, I attended the COA legislative day in Sacramento with some of my classmates. It was a one-day adventure as we woke up at 3am to catch our flight and arrived home late at night. During legislative day, we talked to different California legislators about certain bills and policies we were fighting for in optometry. Some of the topics included increasing MediCal reimbursement rates and expanding scope-of-practice. These are all topics that I’m passionate about, so it was a rewarding experience to share my thoughts with the legislators alongside my fellow colleagues and doctors.
Fun School Events
Although not a specific event, I really enjoyed getting to know my classmates more and bond with them on a deeper level through the various school events MBKU hosts. Some of my core memories from first year were from our class secret santa exchange and they Eye-ball formal! When we normally see each other at school/in an academic setting, it’s fun to hang out with each other and let loose through these events outside of school since we can bond on a more personal level.
Overall, I had a blast during my first year of optometry school and can’t wait to begin second year! If you have any questions regarding MBKU or anything in general, please feel free to reach out to me anytime at mirandahuang.scco28@ketchum.edu.
