Medicine is a career that is nothing short of demanding. Constant training and lifelong education requires a heavy dose of tenacity and patience. As I reflect on my first professional year in pharmacy school, I’ve learned that balance is not just a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Between the workload of studying, labs, and exams, and beginning my journey as a P1 intern at Kaiser Permanente, I quickly realized how important it was to manage my time and energy wisely. Yet, I’ve found that making space outside of the classroom has been just as essential to my success.
For me, that grounding comes from being with my horses. Stepping away from textbooks and into the barn reminds me why balance matters; it gives me clarity and the energy to return to my studies with renewed focus. My advice for prospective students, or those just starting grad school, is to remember that while academics are important, who you are outside the classroom also shapes the kind of healthcare provider you'll become. It’s not only about excelling in your studies, but also about nurturing the resilience and balance that keep you whole.
