Biography

Dr. Comer is a graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry. He completed a residency in hospital-based optometry at University of Kentucky School of Medicine Dept. of Ophthalmology/Lexington Kentucky Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. He is also a graduate of the University of California, Irvine - Paul Merage School of Business, with an MBA in Health Care Administration.

 

Dr. Comer is currently Associate Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry at MBKU. He is the past Chief of Staff of Optometric Center of Fullerton and Chief, Jarnagin Primary Eye Care Service. He is also a founding member of Optometric Glaucoma Society, one of 15-member societies in the World Glaucoma Association. Dr. Comer also served as the past Diplomate Chair, Disease Section of the American Academy of Optometry.

 

His research interests are glaucoma, visual field testing, intraocular pressure assessment, optic nerve imaging and retinal nerve fiber layer imaging. He is one of less than 250 continuing optometric education lecturers in the above areas with the emphasis in glaucoma management. At SCCO, he lectures and is the lab instructor for the ocular health assessment courses and ocular disease course on glaucoma. 

Dr. Comer is a 1981 graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry. He completed a residency in hospital-based optometry at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky and the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky School of Medicine. He is also a graduate of the University of California, Irvine Graduate School of Management with an MBA in health care management.

Dr. Comer is currently Associate Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry. He is immediate past Chair of the Disease Section of the Academy and is the Chair of the Disease Section Diplomate Program.

He has lectured extensively on glaucoma diagnosis and management and has a special interest in use of technology in this area such as new forms of perimetry and new optic nerve head and nerve fiber layer imaging.
