Trey Boyd, DMSc, PA-C, is an adjunct professor in the education concentration of the MBKU DMSc program. He serves as course director for the core education courses, which focus on instruction, program development, accreditation compliance, and educational technology.
Dr. Boyd began his career as a PA practicing orthopedic surgery in upstate South Carolina. After years of clinical practice, he transitioned into academia as the founding director of clinical education for the Presbyterian College PA program. After earning his doctorate, Dr. Boyd served as an associate professor and director of postgraduate medicine for the University of Lynchburg DMSc program. He later returned to PA education at Gardner Webb University as associate program director. Throughout his time in education, he maintained clinical practice in orthopedics and family medicine.
Dr. Boyd is NCCPA-certified and licensed in both North and South Carolina. He is a fellow of the NC and SC Academy of PAs, the AAPA, and the ADPA. He has served in leadership roles within state academies, chairing the advocacy and outreach committee for the Virginia Academy of PAs and serving as a director-at-large for the NC Academy of PAs. He is a peer reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, a published author, and a speaker at regional and state-level conferences. He has held clinical, academic, and healthcare administrative leadership roles throughout his career. In his free time, he enjoys landscaping projects and visiting the Appalachian Mountains near his home.
