Welcome to MBKU SPAS Class of 2027! I am so happy that all of you have decided to become a part of our MBKU family. It must have been a challenging journey, and I want to acknowledge all your hard work and the sacrifices that you have made to get to this point. I am so proud of every one of you!
However, the journey of becoming PA is just starting! There will be ups and downs, just as you’ve experienced in the past. But I want to reassure you that it will all be worth it when we reach the finish line. Personally, I have been having amazing experiences at MBKU with faculties and classmates that I will never trade for another. Here are some things that I want you guys to know as you guys are preparing.
1.The Embarkation
“Are you nervous, excited, or both?” This is the question I always ask my partner as I buckle up and the roller coaster starts moving. Thinking back to when I first started PA school, I wasn’t sure if I was more nervous or excited to start PA school. I was placed in a room full of people that I have never met before. But it did not take long for me to realize that everyone has diverse, unique, and amazing personalities. So, I encourage you to talk to your peers, whether that is your classmates or faculties, because they understand what you are going through and assure you that you are not the only one.
2. The Build-Up
As the roller coaster approaches its peak, the fear of an unknown drop can be nerve-racking.
I often felt like I was behind and my previous experiences were not helpful compared to what others had, because everyone seemed like they had such great knowledge. I was unsure and afraid of potential failures that were waiting for me. However, I learned that the majority of the people had similar academic struggles that I was having. MBKU is a safe environment to make mistakes and learn from each other. So, when the infamous imposter syndrome starts approaching, tell yourself and peers that you all are okay to be unsure and that everything will be okay.
3. The Journey
You’ve waited in line for years to take this ride toward a career as a PA, and it would be disappointing if all you got to do is stress about passing a test, right? So, enjoy the ride! Hold each other’s hands, wave, scream, and laugh together through the journey. We have chosen a career where lifelong learning is inevitable, and we will face sharp turns and tunnels that might darken our vision. But always look ahead to the bright light at the end of the tunnel and keep pushing forward. I believe that every single one of you deserves to be here, and that you will have an amazing time here at MBKU.
Welcome once again, and don’t forget to smile for the picture. :)
