Tiffany Khieu put her pharmacy skills to use in an unforgettable way during her MBKU Lions Club medical mission trip, she shared, “¡Buenos días! On Thanksgiving Break, I traveled to Michoacán, Mexico along with my fellow MBKU Lions Club members, our group included six optometry students and three pharmacy students. There, we served 1,300 patients with general and eye health services. From taking blood pressures to dispensing glasses, each student exercised their knowledge and skills learned from school to help each patient.

Aaron Hunro is quite the busy PA student (like many others), but shared with us why it’s important for him to share his path with others, “Many students wonder how I have the time to balance school, life and mentor Pre-PA students. The answer is, I don't. But my passion is there. As the former MBKU Pre-PA Mentorship Club Co-President, I was able to strengthen my connection and network with various local Pre-PA clubs. The reason why I do various things such as vitals workshops, presentations, and Q&A sessions is that one day these students might be my future PA colleagues.

One of our own, Dr. Reena Patel was recently featured in Yorba Linda Lifestyle, where she acknowledged the importance of pediatric vision care, “I enjoy seeing patients in our clinic, but my heart goes out to the children I see who have an undetected vision disorder, which may have impacted their vision development or academic performance. When I explain the clinical findings to the parents, they often say, ‘Why did I not know about this sooner?’ This is a big reason why I have become very passionate about promoting the importance of pediatric vision care.

MBKU hosted the Orange County Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OCSHP) chapter’s first Residency readiness workshop, which included presentations by Drs. Dau, Daher and Garcia around the topic of “To Residency and Beyond,” as well as mock interviews and a panel discussing “Do’s and Don’ts for Interviewing.” The event, which was open to all #PharmacyStudents in California, with students from UCSF, Loma Linda, KGI and Western in attendance, was made possible by a current P4 herself and OCSHP’s Membership Chair, Miriam Morkos!

Ryan Funai reflected back on Fall quarter and notes, "It was the busiest and most hectic quarter I’ve had in Opto School. I’m glad to have my classmates by my side through thick and thin. Kristy Nguyen shared her experience playing at the MBKU vs. Western Basketball Tournament, "Here’s our youngest SCCO OD team (first and second years) who call themselves, “What It Do Baby.” They performed strongly as they beat out SCCO third and fourth year OD teams to advance to the semi-finals!
