With the SPAS Class of 2021 heading off to clinical rotations soon, they practiced new skills including endotracheal tube intubation, intraosseous line placement, CPR, rapid EKG interpretation and became certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association. Did you know Vince Ferragamo, known for his role as LA Rams quarterback including in Super Bowl XIV, was once a student at SCCO? In a recent interviewed by fellow SCCO alum, Dr. Alex Corbin Liu (@dralexcorbin), current OD1 Rachel Villareal (@rachelvyoutuber) and Dr. Jasdeep Singh Soni (@optoturban), Vince shares his story of being an optometry student and ultimately playing in the NFL, as well as great advice on teamwork and the importance of leadership. #tbt to the Class of 2021 PA lumbar puncture workshop, also known as a spinal tap, which was part of their emergency medicine module. Jennifer Nguyen, Student

Jennifer Nguyen, Student Pharmacist from the Class of 2021, was recently published in the Pharmacy Times during her block 1 rotation, alongside her preceptor Dr. Jonathan Ogurchak, about their research on Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), an HIV prevention approach in which people at risk for HIV (current HIV-negative individuals) take daily medicine to prevent it. Jennifer also helped draft a standard operating procedure during her block 2 rotation for their community pharmacist to follow in order to furnish HIV PrEP & PEP medications in compliance with California Senate Bill (SB) 159.
