Submitted by kwall on

We've always been about community and now more than ever, we want to recognize the things that make us feel connected to each other. Send us your photos about what's making you smile during these times. Whether it's being at home with pets, giving a shoutout to an unsung hero, or something silly, we'll share it on our feed and let everyone know that #weareMBKU and we're all in this together. As we wrap up our third week of remote learning, we've learned a lot. Like, it's ok if your daily commute is from your bed to the couch and it's ok to feel distracted and overwhelmed. But when the going gets tough, your MBKU community is here for you and we've shared some online learning tips to help you adapt to this new normal (link in bio). Think of these as little merit badges you could earn to boost your motivation!

In times like these, we turn to lessons from Mr. Rogers, "Always look for the helpers. There’s always someone who is trying to help." We're so amazed at some of the responses we've seen to #COVID19 such as from PA student, Aaron Hunro, who helped set up a GoFundMe to say #ThankYouFrontliners by raising money to bring meals to health care providers and supporting local businesses! Their first donation allowed them to feed the team at West Anaheim Hospital Emergency Department with food from @pizzaprojectusa

"Amidst the COVID-19 global crisis, this was the last health fair MBKU assisted with: on Feb 22, CSHP-MBKU and MBKU-CPhA-ASP collaborated with OCCHA to help with providing free health screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, consultations, BMI, and translations for the patients. The event was hosted by the Raise Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim." ?: @occha.info

The SCCO Professional Committee hosted their first Eye-to-Eye webinar thanks to the organization of Caroline Quan and Christoper Quan, our Local Optometric Society Liaisons. Over 45 students from SCCO, WUCO, and UCB were able to talk to the San Diego County Optometric Society without having to drive all the way down to San Diego! This the first of our webinar series and we are excited to talk to the 10 more California Optometric Societies in order to connect our students to learn more outside of the classroom.
